The challenge
MECC Maastricht is the venue for the UTECH trade event that is held every three years. Organised by the Global Polymer Group of Crain Communications, and in collaboration with Urethanes Technology International, this trade show is the leading international event and conference for the global polyurethane industry.
During the most recent spring edition, it was very warm for the time of year and as well in the halls of MECC Maastricht. Erik Janssen, Manager Organiser Services at MECC Maastricht, wanted to have a pleasant indoor climate for both visitors and exhibitors for the 2024 edition. That meant placing an additional cooling system.
Cool, aesthetic and very quiet
As preferred partner, MECC Maastricht asked Boels Rental if it could help think of some solutions to this climate problem. The conditions were clear: the solution didn’t just have to cool effectively, but also had to be aesthetically pleasing and quiet to boot. Thanks to years of experience in cooling large halls, storage spaces and production sites, Boels HVAC was quick to offer a suitable solution.
Air handling units were installed in every hall which, together with outdoor units, blew cooled air into the halls through perforated air hoses. The system provided 1 MW of cooling power, enough to reduce the temperature by 2 degrees Celsius. Using perforated air hoses ensured the air was distributed evenly in the halls. The good thing about this system is that it doesn’t just cool, it can also heat if needed and can be coupled to provide up to 4 MW. The entire system is remotely pre-programmed and monitored.
