It’s Spotify Wrapped time again. While music lovers discover their favourite tracks of the year, Boels Rental looks back on a year full of highlights.
This season, the equipment rental company worked at full speed to ensure that major events such as Lowlands, Tomorrowland and Formula 1 at Zandvoort ran smoothly. From sanitary units to hundreds of kilometres of fencing – Boels is ‘wrapping up’ its year with a look back at the contributions it made to an unforgettable festival season in the Netherlands and Belgium.
Starting with a familiar predicament for every festival: will there ever be enough toilets? One way or the other, Boels was ready with no less than 14,500 toilet facilities. On top of that, Boels also provided:
- 120,000 kilometres of fencing
- More than 1,750 machines
- Over 1,600 office units
- 378 trailer-mounted message signs
- 163 LED screens
- 875 working hours of operators on site
Fencing: from festival entrances to site security
As many as 120,000 fences kept things nice and orderly during the festivals. Of these fences, 86,000 were event fences totalling 300 kilometres and 34,000 were crowd barriers totalling 85 kilometres. From May to August, it was all hands on deck for the team, including more than 800 shifts for installing and dismantling the fences.
The effects of bad weather
It was a busy festival season and that called for a tight logistical schedule. On top of that, the weather was not very cooperative – with lots of rain and muddy ground. This increased the demand for road plates and pumps to ensure that everyone could use the pathways. This sometimes meant longer set-up and dismantling times and more intensive use of the equipment to ensure that everything ran smoothly.
”we see increasing demand for sustainable solutions”
More experience, less impact
An increasing number of festivals opted for sustainable alternatives this year. For example, Extrema Outdoor in Belgium switched to electric vehicles instead of diesel for the most part, and Pinkpop also replaced many of its diesel site carriers with electric variants. More and more venues in the Netherlands and Belgium are implementing sustainability requirements, displaying a shift towards a greener festival season.‘Boels Wrapped’ is the company’s way of paying tribute to the often invisible efforts that make the festival experience possible. It was a season full of unforgettable moments, both on stage and behind the scenes.
