Whether they are for use in civil and hydraulic engineering, industry, for the government or in marine & offshore, every (emergency) situation requires a different pump solution. With more than 100 years’ experience, the experts at Boels Rental, realise that no pump set, pump installation and pump need is the same. We have therefore compiled this guide to help you find the right pump for your project.
For each sector, there are dedicated pump solutions which take into account specific works, the seasons, environmental factors, pump specifications and much more. This might involve the volume of liquid to be pumped and its exact nature, as well as repair works to a sewer, a burst water pipe, a leaking discharge pipe or work on contaminated ditches and canals. And what about seasonal influences? As a result of climate change, it not only seems to rain more often, but also more heavily over a short period of time. That creates problems for many building sites, particularly when excavation work is planned. Another thing to consider are the periods in spring and autumn when huge demand puts pressure on the availability of pumps.

It always starts with several questions
To assess the type of work and the required capacity of pump(s) and equipment, the following questions are always a good starting point. Answering them yourself helps prepare you for when you need help.
How urgent is it?
A: is there time for an on-site assessment of the best technical and economic solution?
B: is this an emergency which requires an immediate response with lots of equipment?
How big is the problem?
A: is it a small, local problem, for example a flooded basement?
B: is it a major and perhaps dangerous emergency, such as a pump failure in a sewage pumping station or a burst water pipe? Which organisations are involved and who is authorised to take (financial) decisions?
Who do you need to call?
A: contact the local Boels branch or our customer service. You can do so via chat on boels.com or call.
B: there are two contact options for bigger and critical problems.
Specifically for major emergency situations involving liquid, we advise calling the emergency service. This service is available 24/7. There is also Boels Critical Support, a specialist service provided by Boels Rental which can help companies in the case of major, general emergencies, from power outages to fire or flooding. Critical Support is available 24/7 by calling +31 (0)46 4592240.
Boels is the specialist in (temporary) pump rental
In the pump rental business, every project is unique, requiring a suitable pump installation. Boels specialises in the complete implementation and supervision of both small and large projects. From engineering to implementation.
Does your project risk being delayed due to flooding and do you want to pump away that water as quickly as possible? In that case, rent a submersible pump. Do you need a pump to clean pipes? For that purpose, we rent high pressure pumps. Are you planning to renovate a sewage pumping station? We have various sewage pumps like submersible sewage pumps and dry self-priming wastewater pumps.
Sometimes you may only need a single pump, while bigger projects often require more capacity. This is all presented in the customised work plan specially drawn up for your project. In consultation with you, this plan elaborates every detail so that you know which pump(s), piping, materials and equipment we will be using.

The pipeline is customised for you
A pump can’t do much without the associated pipes, hoses and appendages, so these are always supplied too. The pipeline to and from the pump is very important. The specialists at Boels are always able to calculate the size of the pipe and establish a practical and safe pipeline. For this we use steel and HDPE pipes (high density polyethylene). These pipes often have a standard length of 6 or 12 metres. With attachments like sliding pumps, suction strainers and sand traps, we ensure that each pipeline is adapted to your local situation. Does the pipeline cross a road, cycle path or footpath? Our pipe bridges prevent problems for traffic.
On the sites in Ridderkerk, Chemelot and Zwolle, we store kilometres of pipes and hoses for use in a range of projects. The certified pipes are periodically inspected. You can therefore be assured that these high-quality pipes are in top condition for use.
The total solution for pumps
With over 1,000 wastewater pumps, national coverage in the Netherlands and Belgium and regular support provided in neighbouring countries like Germany and France, Boels is a reliable partner in pump rental. But to ensure that the chosen pump solutions operate well, we often need more than just a pump with some hoses or pipes.

Boels offers a total solution for your project. An example: your project doesn’t have any power on site or not enough to supply your electric pumps? Rent a generator as a temporary power supply for your wastewater pump. Or do you need fencing to safely cordon off the pumping area, lighting for installing (emergency) pumps or surveillance cameras to monitor the pumps? Boels can supply everything you need.
Boels has over 750 branches, so the required machinery is always nearby and quickly available. The turnkey solutions provided by our specialists cover the entire process: from survey to a 24/7 service.
The total solution for your project
Always the right pump for your project
This guide shows you what you need to consider in the case of a water emergency: is the situation very urgent or can it wait? Is the problem contained or is it quickly getting out of hand? Is danger involved or can you manage without help? It is then important to assess how long the project will take and what additional equipment is required. However big the problem, a solution is always close at hand thanks to the total solution for your project provided by Boels.
