On the western side of Gouda, Van Oord Grondstoffen is developing the new residential area Westergouwe IV. At this preparatory stage, there is no fixed construction power connection available yet. Still, the work must continue.

No construction power, yet full progress
At this stage, the focus is on preparing the site for construction. Units, pumps and small equipment run continuously to get the ground ready.
Dennis Waterreus, Site Manager and Project Control Manager, explains: “We don’t have a fixed grid connection here yet. So your power supply simply has to be reliable. Downtime is not an option.”
The temporary energy solution supplies the site with continuous power, largely generated by solar energy.
Less diesel, lower emissions
By combining solar energy with diesel back-up, fuel consumption remained limited. From the end of March through September, the installation ran almost entirely on solar power.
This resulted in:
- Lower diesel consumption
- Fewer transport movements
- Lower emissions
- Better cost control
“Sustainability is becoming increasingly important,” says Dennis. “When you see how much diesel you save, it’s simply a smart choice.”
Flexible to match every project phase
The layout of the construction site changes regularly. You need a solution that you can easily relocate and put back into operation immediately. Boels actively thinks along with the project team.
