The challenge: large project with high sustainability goals
Granit-Bau is renovating 5.5 km of the busy Austrian S6 motorway, including six bridges and three tunnels. The construction site is extensive and partly hard to access. On top of that, project owner ASFINAG demanded a sustainable approach. Reliable site power, without extra environmental impact, was a must.
The solution: Boels solar generator
Boels has worked with Granit-Bau for years. When the request for power supply came in early 2025, Gernot Saska – account manager at Boels Graz – immediately thought of the solar generator. Its successful use during the Alternative Elfstedentocht on the Weissensee convinced him. Together with technical specialist Jos Arts, he explored the possibilities and invited the customer for a live demo. Granit-Bau was quickly convinced.
The result: continuous power, minimal emissions
The generator has now been running 24/7 on site. “It only ran for four hours without solar power,” says project manager Patrick Kresche. “That saved a lot on fuel and emissions. It powers the worker cabins and small tools continuously.”
Why Boels?
Granit-Bau values more than just innovation. “Everything Boels delivers works. And if there’s an issue, they solve it fast. That’s crucial on a tightly scheduled project,” says Kresche. The bright orange generator is also catching attention. “Other contractors have already reached out after spotting it by the road.”
Sustainable building starts here
Demand for the solar generator is growing fast in Austria. Two more units may follow soon. “If it works, others follow,” says Saska. “We’re helping our customers move forward – also in terms of sustainability. That’s what drives us.”
