Projects in infrastructure often call for the work to be carried out without causing disruption to the flow of traffic. There are always new and unexpected challenges, and you need to consider that sustainability also plays an important role. It’s at times like these that you want a partner who can provide a total solution. VeenIX is a construction consortium that works with Boels on infrastructure projects. Tim Reeves, General Superintendent at VeenIX: “We were looking for a party with a wide range and Boels Rental is the perfect partner for us.”
Logistical challenges
The project spans a trajectory of 11 kilometres where no power and water supply is available. A total of 42 different construction gates have been installed, for which Boels provides all the site equipment. Reeves: “There are all kinds of logistical challenges with this project, so we often have to act at the list minute. You may need something quickly, or someone’s forgotten something. This is never an issue for Boels; they make sure it’s taken care of.”
Sustainable equipment
Sustainability and circularity play an integral role. Reeves: “It’s important for us to work in an environmentally conscious way. Boels has a whole range of sustainable equipment and we use them a lot. We work in residential areas and the electric machines are quiet, so the people living there experience less noise pollution. We also use solar generators for the offices and construction site units.”

The VeenIX and Boels partnership
As the construction manager, Tim Reeves works very closely with project manager Lars Lemmens. Reeves: “The communication is transparent and when we need something, it gets delivered.” Together, they look at ways to save costs. Lemmens: “When someone has finished using an excavator, we look at who else needs it. We do everything we can to keep the number of transport movements to a minimum and make sure equipment quickly gets to the right place.”

Successful cooperation
Lemmens and his project team are based in Zaandam. “They make sure everything can keep going. We have five Boels Rental depots here in the area, from where everything is delivered. No matter how high the need, we can deliver. And if required, very quickly as well.” Reeves underline the success of the partnership: “It’s all going extremely well. I look forward to working with Boels more often in the future.”
