The ERA, European Rental Association, has developed a free online CO2 calculator to calculate the lifecycle CO2 emissions of construction equipment. The tool shows the total Co2 emissions per hour of use. This not only gives you an insight into which equipment emits the most CO2, but also whether you should choose to rent, lease or buy. The results of the calculator can also be used to evaluate the effects of alternative fuels.
How does the ERA CO2 calculator work?
The calculator can be completed for all types of construction equipment. From excavators and wheel loaders to generators and aerial work platforms. The calculator estimates the CO2 footprint of a machine per hour of use. By expressing the results per (active) hour, you can make comparisons between different types of machines and over a wide range of ownership scenarios.
The tool can be completed free of charge on the ERA website: https://equipmentcalculator.org/en.
