Reading time: 2 minutes
Allseas’ offshore vessel Solitaire spent 7 weeks at the quay for maintenance and modernisation. Among other areas, the complete kitchen and canteen were renewed while hundreds of crew members continued working day and night. The need for meals did not stop.
Boels Portable Kitchens provided the solution: a fully equipped temporary kitchen and a complete restaurant setup. “With Boels, you work without delays. They deliver on time, respond quickly and keep communication clear. That meant we could keep working without interruption,” says Dennis van Veen, vessel coordinator at Allseas.

From kitchen unit to complete dining facility
The temporary facility was more than just a kitchen. Boels delivered a complete setup: a production kitchen for hot food preparation, a preparation kitchen for cold food preparation, a dishwashing kitchen and a serving line, including a full restaurant area.
“For many projects in the Netherlands, we only supply a kitchen. In this case, we facilitated the complete setup,” says Joep Joosten, account manager Portable Kitchens at Boels. “We arranged everything from start to finish. And we did it within a tight schedule.”
Custom solution in a challenging port environment
Working in a port area requires solid preparation. Access passes, strict procedures and a tight schedule set the pace. The kitchen had to be installed in 1 day, followed by 2 days for finishing and testing. This ensured the kitchen was ready for use as soon as the vessel was moored.
The project also called for a custom technical solution. As there was no direct wastewater connection, Boels used special wastewater tanks as an external drainage solution.

Working together under time pressure
From the first inventory check to installation and return: every step was closely coordinated. This made it possible to support an intensive renovation programme for 7 weeks, without disrupting operations.
“We came to Boels through a recommendation from another project,” says Van Veen. “They fully lived up to that experience.”
Ready for continuity on site
This project shows that a temporary kitchen does more than replace a practical space. With the right preparation, clear communication and a complete setup, operations keep moving.
