Hospital in Austria is happy with the daily shiny dishes thanks to Boels Portable Kitchens.
On the grounds of the Wels-Grieskirchen hospital in Austria, Boels Portable Kitchens has built a temporary commercial dishwashing station, on top of an approximately 1.20-metre-high steel structure. And it was needed, because the hospital’s own kitchen, is being completely renovated and upgraded over the next two years. The hospital’s Health and Risk Manager Franz Scherzer and Boels account manager Matthias Altmann take us along about this special project.
Temporary dishwashing station
Every day, the kitchen staff at Wels hospital prepare around 4,500 fresh, healthy meals. Not just for the patients, but also for employees. Needless to say that the meals should always maintain the same high quality, also during the renovation. Franz: “That’s the biggest challenge of this project.” The renovation will take about two years. That’s how long he hopes to use the temporary dishwashing system of Boels Portable Kitchens.
High steel structure
What makes the project in Wels so unique is that the temporary dishwashing station is placed on top of a high steel structure. Matthias explains why: “Customers often have their own ideas already about where the temporary kitchen needs to go. The initial plan at Wels hospital was to place the containers on the roof of the building, near the helicopter landing pad.” Due to the high costs, we eventually opted for a different location, which is the hospital grounds. “But on top of a steel structure,” says Matthias, because the containers have to be at the same height as the first floor of the hospital for logistical reasons. “The walls of the clinic and the walls of the containers will be opened, creating a passageway of equal height.” Franz nods. “It’s important that the floor is on the same level,” he explains. “Without any thresholds.” The project in Wels is unique for Matthias, who hasn’t built containers on top of a steel structure before. “I spoke at length with the steel company that installed the structure. The first sketches were made pretty quickly.”
“We can focus on other important matters. In case there is a breakdown or there are any issues at all, he knows he can contact Boels and get the help he needs quickly and efficiently. – Franz Scherzer, Wels-Grieskirchen”
Agency for Food and Health Safety requirements
The project is not only challenging because of the high steel frame the containers are built on. Franz also mentions the strict requirements of the Austrian Agency for Food and Health Safety. “Everything has to be hygienic at all times. Moreover, approvals are needed from all kinds of authoritative bodies during each phase of the project.”
Excellent cooperation
Franz enjoys the cooperation with Boels very much. “It’s fantastic that all this is possible,” he responds, pointing to the containers and the steel structure underneath. “This is the only viable option for us and this structure solves a lot of issues.” Matthias agrees. “The cooperation with the hospital has been a healthy synergy from the first moment through to the implementation. We constantly worked together to find the best solutions.” Franz hopes the kitchen staff will be able to use the temporary dishwashing station without any problems for the next two years. “So we can focus on other important matters.” And in case there is a breakdown or there are any issues at all, he knows he can contact Boels and get the help he needs quickly and efficiently. “I have no doubts about that.”
