Rock-solid service & sustainable construction
Renovation of the Tilburg Municipal Office is currently under way in the city centre. The building is getting a royal touch, as it will form one whole with the adjacent Palace Town Hall that was built around 1848 for none other than King Willem II. Boels is total supplier of all the rental equipment for this sustainable renovation project.
What does Boels supply for this project?
Boels has been involved in the construction of the new Municipal Office right from the start. Patrick Haurissa, Account Manager at Boels: “This is a massive project, so there are many different specialist areas of Boels that supply equipment. Everything from fencing, large and small aerial platforms, passenger lifts, forklifts, sanitary facilities. Boels Power & HVAC took care of the heating for the construction site during winter. We were able to use the existing pipework to heat the building in its entirety”.
Depot manager Martijn van Wanrooy coordinates all rental materials. “I work very closely with BAM and all subcontractors. What’s special about this collaboration is that the subcontractors work according to the price agreements we have with main contractor BAM. 80% of the subcontractors make use of these agreements. This enables us to provide targeted and sound advice about which machines are the best for each job. And we can supply all the equipment at the same time, which benefits costs in terms of transport and CO2 emissions,” Martijn van Wanrooy explains.
Sustainable construction
The building’s renovation is all done according to BREEAM sustainability guidelines, including solar roof panels and LED lighting throughout the building. Also during construction, the emphasis is on sustainability. The supply and removal of materials is combined where possible to minimise transport CO2 emissions. Boels also delivers all its rental equipment from local depots.
Sustainable working and sustainable rental solutions are important pillars for Boels. The zero-emission equipment range is large and is continuously being extended with smart innovations. Martijn van Wanrooy: “We also like to think proactively with the customer about sustainability. For example, the main contractor for this project needed a battery-powered forklift truck with a cab that had to be under 1.80 metres high. We didn’t have a forklift with those specs in our fleet, so we spoke to a supplier to have one specially developed. And they did just that! BAM was extremely happy with this rental solution, which didn’t exist before. An example of Boels’ rock-solid service.”
Mix of old and new
The Municipal Office will be a mix of traditional and contemporary design. The heritage listed design from 1972 will be preserved. Just like that of the unique Palace Town Hall, which is a sought-after wedding location. The interior of the Municipal Office will have a council chamber, meeting rooms and offices for civil servants and the municipal board.
