In all our processes and projects, there is a great deal of attention devoted to working safely. Awareness is a must when it comes to fully integrating safety into the corporate culture. Obtaining the Safety Culture Ladder (SCL) Step 2 certification for all business units of Boels Netherlands confirms the fact that safety is in the DNA of Boels Rental.
Safety awareness
Because we consider safety important for our employees as well as for our customers of course, we devote a great deal of attention to it. Sven Janssen is the team leader for Health & Safety and the person responsible for managing conduct and safety at Boels. “We comply with all of the guidelines and regulations, but we also like to go a step further. That’s why we are enormously proud of our SCL Step 2 certification. This certification not only says something about process safety, but also about the awareness and conduct of staff in particular. Behaviour is difficult to measure and only changes once it has received a lot of attention”, says Sven.

Boels meets GCVB requirements
By obtaining the SCL Step 2 certification, we also meet the requirements for tenders in the construction industry. Construction is a high-risk sector. For this reason, signatories to the Dutch Governance Code Safety in Construction (GCVB) have agreed to work even more safely in the future. Step 2 certification is a minimum requirement for collaborating companies. Boels Rental now also meets that condition.
Progressing to SCL Step 3
Safety awareness needs to continue to grow over the coming years. We aim to obtain SCL Step 3 certification in 2023. Promoting safe work practices is the key to achieving this. All Dutch business units have taken this into account in their annual Health & Safety plans. Sven: “We are actively working on increasing safety awareness. Just like an actual ladder, we start from a solid foundation. We climb each step of the ladder with great care. The same applies to the steps of the Safety Culture Ladder. That’s how we will continue to grow sustainably towards becoming a fully safety-conscious organisation.”
Health & Safety Vision on Safety:
“We have zero accidents on the workfloor. Safe working conditions and practices are absolute requirements in all of our activities. When it comes to work safety, we serve as role models for our customers. Our solutions, safe equipment and high-quality safety instructions together with complete availability and on-time delivery are the foundations for our long-term business relationships.”
