If there had been a roof on Pinkpop, the music would have blown it right off. This combination also made the 51st edition of the Pinkpop festival a huge success. It was not only the line-up that proved to be a complex jigsaw puzzle due to the world-class bands that were performing, it is also a major challenge for us every year. We have been a steadfast partner of the festival for many years now. This year, we provided the sanitary facilities, party supplies, lighting, crowd-control text boards, interconnecting road plates, climate control, container units and some of the machines.
A well-oiled machine
Event Manager Guido Deckers is the oil that keeps the Boels Rental and Pinkpop organisation partnership running smoothly. “Everyone had to get used to being together again. Because of covid, there are lots of new faces in the event world. That is also true for Pinkpop. The core team is luckily still intact, with Pinkpop Production Manager Sierk Janssen holding ultimate responsibility for the festival.”
Janssen is very pleased with the Boels collaboration. “The people at Boels are proactive and pragmatic in their work. They are partners through thick and thin. You can rely on Boels even when times are tough or when there is an emergency. That’s comforting and it gives you a good feeling. Especially when you have to deal with hundreds of suppliers during a festival like Pinkpop. One thing is for certain – Boels always delivers.”
Container units for world stars
Site carriers were constantly driving around the backstage area transporting supplies and technicians. The days before the event were already full of life! The backstage area was always bustling. The loading dock for the lighting and sound for the bands took up most of the space, not to mention the almost 200 Boels container units. “Yes, the containers are used extensively everywhere. Meeting all the requirements of both Pinkpop and the bands was quite a challenge,” explained Guido.
“Of course, it’s incredible that the Boels container units are being used by world stars like Metallica and Pearl Jam” – Guido Deckers’
When you need help the most, Boels is always close by
Besides the units and a variety of machines, there was also another bright orange Boels product on site and by no means the least important: the Bio-Box. All of the toilet units were conveniently distributed at five different locations throughout the festival grounds. And of course at the various festival campsites. The campsites were also equipped with showers. The Boels team always remained on site working continuously to ensure that everything ran smoothly for the many tens of thousands of visitors every day.
Over the next several days, all of the equipment and machines will be loaded and prepared for the next project or event. “We are happy to keep on working this way,” says Guido enthusiastically. The next stops include Rock Werchter, Down the Rabbit Hole, CHIO Rotterdam, Bospop Weert, Park City Live, Tomorrowland & Dreamville, Solar, Pukkelpop, Lowlands and so forth. “This is going to be a great summer for festivals!”
