The international construction company VolkerWessels approached Boels Rental with a request to supply equipment and material for use in an infrastructure project in Rhenen. Maintenance work needed to be carried out on a viaduct along a through road. Because disruptions to traffic needed to be minimised to the greatest degree possible, this request was sure to pose a challenge.
The best solutions with the least disruptions
Boels was asked to help in the operations as early as the work preparation phase. All of the parties involved visited the site in order to utilise each other’s expertise and offer the best solutions. Philo Verplanke, Account Manager of the Gelderland projects at Boels, was responsible for this project on behalf of Boels. “Because traffic had to continue to pass under the bridge, we were looking for solutions that would cause as little disruption as possible. This is why a temporary traffic lane was created.”
The right equipment for any situation
Based on the detailed plans from VolkerWessels, Boels provided a thorough list of the equipment required. This included boom lifts, generators, fuel and surveillance cameras as well as lighting because the work was to continue both day and night. “It was only once that we were at the site that we were able to take a good look at what equipment would be the most suitable. Because the ground was sloping, we supplied boom lifts that work perfectly even on uneven surfaces, for example. The lighting supplied had to ensure that work could continue at night, but of course any disturbance to passing motorists due the lights had to be avoided.”

Because Boels was involved in the operation from an early stage, the right equipment and materials could be deployed.
