A safe bet with Boels
Immediately adjacent to the Zaarderheiken junction of the A73 and A67 motorways in Venlo, the latest casino in the Netherlands rises out of the landscape. Construction company Fried van de Laar is the contractor responsible for completing the dazzling design of MVSA architects and Gensler. Steven van Kampen of the Boels depot in Eindhoven has been the coordinator on behalf of Boels Rental since work started on the project. He takes us to the building site.
Spectacular design
The spectacular design of the new Holland Casino Venlo, in the shape of a flower, is very striking in appearance. With a height of 25 metres, a distinctive design and eye-catching LED lighting, the new casino is a landmark in the region and one cannot pass by without noticing it. Boels Rental has been involved in this project since the completion work began. The first contacts were made in summer 2020. Construction company Fried van de Laar has been one of the regular clients with which we have collaborated for years on a variety of projects, particularly in the retail sector.
Ability to adapt quickly
Fried van de Laar’s project leader got in touch with Steven van Kampen. After that, the ball started rolling very fast, says Steven. “We quickly scheduled a discussion. When it became clear what the contractor required, colleagues from Site Preparation were brought in. The first request consisted of units, construction equipment, electricity and water supplies, lighting, access control (IQ-Pass), fencing and scaffolding material.”
The complete package in-house
Steven is the main contact person for this order. This made things straightforward, explains Rick van de Wijdeven, in charge of preparation for Fried van de Laar. “Our collaboration runs very smoothly. The ability to adapt quickly absolutely provides added value. You just have to make one quick phone call and the following morning – sometimes the same day – everything is ready. We can count on Boels and that gives me a feeling of reassurance. From previous projects, we really understand where the other is coming from. You choose Boels because they have the complete package in-house. And if they don’t have something, they still sort it out.”
Suitable solutions
As an example, Rick van de Wijdeven mentions finishing the ceilings. “In this job we had to work indoors at a height of 17.5 metres, while putting a minimal load on the floor. Together with Boels, we came up with a suitable solution, for which they thought outside the box, and that’s awesome.” Steven adds: “We decided on a one-man lift platform that was not in our range. Together with our colleagues from the depot in Venlo, we quickly adapted to the situation and hired this specific product ourselves for this task.” In this way, Boels is helping to achieve the on-schedule delivery of the latest Holland Casino in the Netherlands.
