Since December 2016 Boels is certified according to ISO 50001 standard. In December 2022, Boels was re-certified for three years. The ISO 50001 standard is an useful tool that describes minimum requirements for design, implementation and improvement of energy management systems.
Energy related actions are in alignment with Boels Sustainability Policy and targets for the upcoming period of 2023-2025. We’re continuously working on mitigating our environmental impact by reducing energy consumption and increasing the use of renewable energy. We have several on-going projects to improve the efficiency of logistics and transport. For facilities, installations and vehicle fleet we invest in energy efficient products, services and design for energy performance improvement.
Kees Kouwenhoven, Real Estate Manager: “In respect to our real estate, we are really pushing a change concerning energy-saving measures in both new and existing locations. For 2023 a considerable budget is foreseen to equip our depots and buildings with LED-lighting, solar-panels, better insulation and other energy-saving technics. As an example, last year we developed a huge depot in Barendrecht (The Netherlands) which is almost energy-neutral. And on the roof of the HUB in Sittard we recently installed 506 solar-panels.”
Roel Hendriks, Manager Operations Support: “As the number of Boels locations across Europe grows, so does energy consumption. Market developments regarding sources and prices have a huge impact on procurement strategy. And for internal and external requirements, reporting on usage and costs has become crucial. Therefore, further professionalisation of our energy management system is a high priority within the organisation.”
